Kochi – Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (Hooghly CSL), has secured a notable order from Heritage River Journeys Private Limited, the operator behind Antara River Cruises, to construct two luxury inland cruise vessels for deployment on the Brahmaputra River.
The contract comprises a firm order for one vessel and a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the second. This project is classified as “Notable” under CSL’s order classification system, which reflects a contract value between RS 100 crore and RS 250 crore.
The vessels will be the first luxury cruise liners to be classified under the Inland Vessels (IV) Rules, 2022, and their deployment on the Brahmaputra marks a first in Indian maritime history. Once operational, they will significantly bolster India’s presence on the global river cruise tourism map.
Antara River Cruises, known for its flagship vessel Ganga Vilas—listed in the Limca Book of Records for the world’s longest river cruise—plans to extend its footprint across India’s dynamic waterways. The new ships are expected to elevate the standard of inland cruise experiences, combining world-class shipbuilding with high-end hospitality, and advancing the government’s Make in India initiative.
CSL confirmed that no promoter or group company has any interest in the client awarding the order, and the deal does not qualify as a related-party transaction under SEBI norms.
