Kolkata: In a strategic move to enhance its green energy portfolio, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with SJVN Ltd to source hydropower. The hydropower will be procured from SJVN’s upcoming Sunni Dam and Luhri Stage-I Hydro Projects.

The agreements are part of DVC's larger effort to meet renewable energy obligations and ensure a stable power supply across its operational areas in West Bengal and Jharkhand. This development follows five similar agreements DVC recently signed with NHPC, reflecting a consistent push to diversify its energy mix and improve grid reliability in the Damodar Valley region.

“These PPAs are aimed at securing green energy obligations in our distribution business,” said DVC Member-Secretary John Mathai. “It will help us meet 100 per cent of our future obligations in green energy — be it solar, hydro, or any other source.”

DVC currently supplies around 43 billion units of electricity annually, primarily high-tension power catering to industrial consumers. The latest agreements will come into effect following the commissioning of the SJVN hydro projects, as allocated by the Ministry of Power.

This step marks a significant milestone in DVC’s journey toward sustainable energy and underscores its commitment to meeting the nation's renewable energy goals.
