In a major push to improve connectivity and transportation across the state the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a budget of 16967 crore for the construction of 224 bridges. These projects are planned to be completed within the next nine months.
The Public Works Department has prepared a detailed plan that includes 116 river bridges 96 rail overbridges 12 flyovers and 13 other infrastructure projects. The execution responsibility lies with the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation.
The construction will take place in ten key divisions which include Agra Ayodhya Azamgarh Bareilly Ghaziabad Gorakhpur Kanpur Lucknow Prayagraj and Varanasi.
Officials have confirmed that work on 61 bridges is nearing completion with progress between 75 and 99 percent. However construction on 93 bridges is lagging behind. Of these 60 bridges are between 51 and 75 percent complete while 33 are only 26 to 50 percent complete.
The government has prioritized the completion of the 116 river bridges due to their importance in boosting regional connectivity. The 12 flyovers being constructed at a cost of 1540 crore are also expected to be completed within the set timeframe.
Division wise the Lucknow division has the most number of projects with 47 bridges followed by Ghaziabad with 38 Kanpur and Ayodhya with 26 each Gorakhpur with 24 Agra with 23 Varanasi with 22 Bareilly with 13 Prayagraj with 10 and Azamgarh with 8 projects.
The Public Works Department is actively monitoring all projects to ensure timely completion as per the governments target.
