The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority MMRDA on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it has decided to cancel the tenders for two major infrastructure projects in Mumbai namely the Rs 6000 crore Mumbai Elevated Road Project and the Rs 8000 crore Road Tunnel Project together valued at Rs 14000 crore
The matter reached the Supreme Court after Larsen and Toubro challenged the rejection of its technical bids by MMRDA for both projects Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd which had emerged as the successful bidder had previously been a significant purchaser of electoral bonds before the scheme was scrapped by the court
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and Justices A G Masih and A S Chandurkar expressed surprise on Thursday at Megha Engineering being declared the successful bidder On Friday the court was informed of MMRDA's decision to cancel the tenders
The bench stated that it is up to the Maharashtra government to decide whether to invite fresh tenders for the two projects and disposed of the appeal by Larsen and Toubro as infructuous
