The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved infrastructure projects worth over Rs 12000 crore to advance Metro development and related transport systems in the city.
The decision was taken during the 284th Executive Committee meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik. A total of 19 key contracts were cleared, focusing on Metro line expansion, rolling stock acquisition, civil works, digital systems, traction power, and multi-modal transport connectivity.
Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, emphasized the strategic planning behind the approvals. “Each project approved today has been meticulously evaluated to ensure it contributes meaningfully to the integrated growth of Mumbai’s transport infrastructure,” he said.
Engineering major Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) secured the largest contract worth Rs 4788 crore for Metro Lines 4 and 4A. The scope includes supply of rolling stock, signalling, telecom systems, platform screen doors, depot equipment, and maintenance for five years. L&T also received a separate Rs 188.59 crore contract for track work on the same lines.
The second largest contract, worth Rs 2269.66 crore, was awarded to NCC Ltd for Metro Line 6. This includes rolling stock supply, telecommunications systems, and depot machinery. IRCON International Ltd secured a Rs 668.15 crore contract for traction systems and electrical and mechanical components.
These projects are expected to significantly improve public transport efficiency and connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
