Steel Authority of India: SAIL Fundraise: Company Explores FPO or QIP Route for Capex Needs
SAIL is exploring FPO or QIP routes to fund capex, but clarified that the proposal remains preliminary and is not yet reportable to exchanges.

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) said on August 10, 2026, in a BSE rumour-verification filing that it is exploring various routes to raise funds for its capital expenditure needs, with an FPO or QIP among the options under consideration.
The state-owned steelmaker, responding to an exchange communication dated August 10, clarified that the SAIL fundraise proposal is still at a preliminary stage. The company said the matter has not reached the stage at which it needs to be informed to the stock exchanges under Regulation 30.
The clarification was submitted as a rumour-verification letter under Regulation 30(11). It was addressed to the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Surveillance Department of the National Stock Exchange of India through their respective filing platforms.
FPO and QIP remain options under evaluation
SAIL's disclosure indicates that the company is assessing more than one route for meeting its capex funding requirements. An FPO, or follow-on public offer, and a QIP, or qualified institutional placement, are among the routes being explored, according to the filing.
The letter does not state that either route has been selected. It also does not disclose a proposed fundraising amount, issue size, timetable or other transaction terms. The verified position is limited to SAIL's confirmation that it is examining funding alternatives and that the process remains preliminary.
- Purpose: Funding SAIL's capital expenditure needs.
- Routes being explored: FPO or QIP among various alternatives.
- Current status: Preliminary stage.
- Disclosure context: Response to an exchange email on rumour verification.
Company responds under Regulation 30(11)
The filing was signed by M.B. Balakrishnan, ED (F&A) and Company Secretary. SAIL made the submission after receiving the exchange email concerning the reported fundraising matter.
By describing the exercise as preliminary, the company confined its response to the fact that funding routes are being considered. The filing contains no announcement of an FPO or QIP launch and provides no details about pricing, approvals, investor participation or allocation.
SAIL is headquartered at Ispat Bhawan, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The exchange clarification establishes the company's stated position as of the filing date: it is exploring possible routes for capex financing, while the matter is not yet at the stage requiring a Regulation 30 disclosure to the exchanges.
