Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has appointed Dr Archna Thakur as an Additional Director in the capacity of Independent Director with effect from August 13, 2026, the company said in a BSE filing on Thursday. The ONGC independent director appointment was approved by the company’s board following a letter issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. Dr Thakur has been appointed as a Non-Official Independent Director and carries Director Identification Number 11719170.

Appointment term and regulatory details

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, through its letter dated August 12, 2026, conveyed the competent authority’s approval for Dr Thakur’s appointment as a Non-Official Independent Director on ONGC’s board. The ministry-approved tenure is three years from the date of that letter or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Accordingly, ONGC’s board appointed her as an Additional Director (Independent Director) from August 13, 2026, until the date of the company’s ensuing annual general meeting.

  • ONGC said Dr Thakur is not debarred from holding the office by any SEBI order or any other authority.
  • The company disclosed that she has no relationship with its other directors.

Dr Archna Thakur’s professional background

Dr Thakur holds a doctorate in International Politics from Himachal Pradesh University and is a gold medallist in a master’s degree in Political Science. According to ONGC, she has more than 20 years of experience across academics, management, administration and social services.

Before joining ONGC, she served as principal of a vocational training institute under the Department of Technical Education (Polytechnic), headed the social science department at an international school, worked as a marketing director with electronic media houses in Himachal Pradesh, and served as a consultant with the National Rural Livelihood Mission in the state.

She has also been associated with several non-governmental organisations and contributed to initiatives concerning women’s empowerment, social awareness, community welfare and social development.
