Court sets three-week timeline for balance interest
According to the filing, MTNL had deposited ₹20,53,94,364 as the acquiring body towards compensation. The High Court of Judicature at Bombay has now permitted the claimants to withdraw this deposited amount.
The court also observed that the balance amount towards interest remains payable in addition to the compensation deposit. MTNL said this balance interest is required to be paid within three weeks from the date of the order. The filing did not specify the amount of interest payable.
- The matter relates to Land Acquisition Reference No. 4 of 1999.

Withdrawal remains subject to appeal outcome
MTNL clarified that the amount paid and withdrawn will remain subject to the final outcome of the appeal preferred by the company in its capacity as the acquiring body. The court's permission to withdraw the deposited compensation therefore does not determine the final result of that appeal.
