Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd (IRFC) has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a Rs 5000 crore Rupee Term Loan (RTL) to NTPC. The announcement was made in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Details of the Loan Bid

IRFC had submitted its bid on April 18, 2025, to support NTPC’s capital expenditure plans. The funds are intended to finance various projects including expansion of existing capacity, renewable energy initiatives, renovation and modernization of plants, project acquisitions, and refinancing of existing loans.

While IRFC has emerged as the lowest bidder, the proposal is still subject to internal assessments, board approvals, and final agreement on the sanction terms with NTPC.

Upcoming IRFC Board Meeting

IRFC has also informed the BSE that its Board of Directors will meet on April 28, 2025. The meeting agenda includes approval of the audited financial results for the quarter and financial year ending March 31, 2025. Additionally, the board will review the company’s cash flow statement, assets and liabilities report, and market borrowing program for the 2025–26 financial year.

 

Share Price Performance

On Thursday, IRFC shares opened at Rs 133.90 on the BSE, slightly higher than the previous day’s close of Rs 133.40. The stock touched an intraday high of Rs 134.50 before retreating, impacted by broader market weakness.
