Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced on Saturday that the state is on track to become a leader in renewable energy, with a target of generating 20,000 megawatts of green power by 2030. He said the government has already signed memorandums of understanding worth ₹1 lakh crore with several companies to support this green initiative.

Speaking to the media after visiting Greenko's integrated renewable energy project in Pinnapuram village of Orvakal mandal in Kurnool district, the Deputy CM said the newly introduced Energy Policy 2025 aims to drive the state towards its 20,000 MW goal by 2029–30.

He emphasized Telangana’s proactive approach to increasing power generation and building a surplus to meet the growing demand across the country. "Electricity is the backbone of every product and sector. Increased production leads to job creation and GDP growth. It is a continuous cycle," Vikramarka said.

Highlighting the importance of sustainability, he noted that reliance on coal not only raises production costs but also contributes to pollution. "The world is shifting rapidly towards green energy, and Telangana is aligning with this global transition," he added.

The Deputy CM praised the use of pumped hydro storage to meet peak demand efficiently. He explained how solar energy generated during the day is stored and used at night, making the energy supply more stable and dependable.

The Greenko project he visited integrates solar and wind power with a 1,680 MW pumped hydro storage system. The system supports two four-hour storage cycles daily and also exports electricity internationally.

The visit was also attended by Principal Secretary for Energy Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar, Genco CMD S Harish, and other senior engineers and officials.
