Genus Power Infrastructures has reported a significant surge in its financial performance for the fourth quarter ended March 31 2025 driven by robust growth in its smart metering business. The companys net profit rose more than fivefold to 123 crore in Q4FY25 compared to 24 crore in the same period last year.

Revenue for the quarter more than doubled reaching 937 crore up from 420 crore a year earlier. The company also posted a strong improvement in profitability with EBITDA rising to 196 crore from 51 crore year on year. EBITDA margins expanded by over 800 basis points to 2095 percent compared to 1216 percent in Q4FY24.

The results reflect the companys strategic focus on the metering business which continues to play a key role in driving growth and operational efficiency. Genus Power’s advanced metering infrastructure and facility management services post installation have positioned it as a key player in Indias evolving power distribution sector.

According to a report by Emkay Global Financial Indias transition to a smart grid is progressing steadily. While the rollout of smart meters has been gradual improvements in aggregate technical and commercial losses collection rates and billing efficiencies have been notable. ATC losses for distribution companies have decreased from 223 percent in FY21 to 176 percent in FY24.

Bihar and Assam have emerged as leading states in smart meter adoption. While FY25 has seen a slowdown in new project awards the pace of implementation is expected to accelerate significantly in FY26 and beyond. As of April 2025 only 25 million smart meters have been installed across the country indicating significant room for expansion.

Shares of Genus Power Infrastructures rose 264 percent to close at 395 on the BSE on May 30. The financial results were announced after market hours.
