Engineers India Limited (EIL), a government-owned engineering consultancy and project management firm, is diversifying its business portfolio beyond the traditional oil and gas sector. The company is now venturing into new areas including power generation, mining, nuclear energy, and the semiconductor industry.

Vartika Shukla, Chairman and Managing Director of EIL, shared the company’s strategic shift during the announcement of its fourth-quarter financial results. She revealed that EIL is currently in discussions with three companies to develop clean rooms for semiconductor manufacturing within India, marking a significant move into the high-tech sector.

In the financial year 2024-25, EIL achieved a record-breaking order inflow of Rs 8,214 crore, the highest in the company’s history. This has boosted the company’s total order book to approximately Rs 12,400 crore. Notably, the share of business from diversified sectors has grown, with about 36 percent of the recent order inflow coming from energy-efficient infrastructure projects.

EIL’s international business also saw strong growth, contributing Rs 1,077 crore in order inflows—the highest in the past ten years.

The company is also exploring opportunities in the wind energy sector. According to Shukla, EIL is in talks with partners for the development of offshore wind energy projects. This aligns with the Indian government’s plan to install 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. Additionally, the company is taking interest in thermal power projects as India prepares to add 80 GW of coal-based capacity by 2032 to meet rising electricity demand.

EIL is also strengthening its presence in the nuclear energy space. Shukla mentioned that the company had previously worked on the Kudankulam nuclear project and is now re-engaging with the sector. EIL has trained its workforce in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to build internal competency in nuclear energy projects.

This strategic diversification marks a new chapter in EIL’s growth journey, positioning the company to play a broader role in India’s infrastructure and clean energy transformation.
