New Delhi / Bengaluru, August 11, 2026 — The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Shri Sundaresan S for the post of Director (Mining & Construction Business) of BEML Limited, a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence.

The recommendation was made in PESB Meeting No. 69/2026 held at 08:45 AM on Tuesday, 11 August 2026. Sundaresan S, currently Executive Director and SBU Head – Metro Rail & VB Sleeper Production at BEML Limited, was selected after interviews with 11 candidates.

The formal appointment is subject to the usual clearances and approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The post falls vacant around 1 October 2026 and carries the IDA pay scale of ₹1,80,000 – ₹3,40,000.

 

Who is Shri Sundaresan S?

Shri Sundaresan S is a senior executive of BEML Limited with extensive experience in the company’s Rail & Metro vertical.

  • Current Role: Executive Director and SBU Head – Metro Rail & VB Sleeper Production, Bangalore Complex.

  • Recent Promotion: Elevated from Chief General Manager to Executive Director in January 2026 (one of four CGMs promoted to ED level in a senior management reshuffle notified to the stock exchanges).

  • Earlier Position: Served as Chief General Manager and SBU Head – Metro Rail at BEML’s Bangalore Complex. In this capacity, he handled key responsibilities related to metro rolling stock projects, including coordination for major contracts and related commercial/project activities.

He has been associated with BEML’s metro business, which has secured large orders from Bangalore Metro, Chennai Metro and other urban transit systems. Publicly available records show limited additional personal details (education or pre-BEML career), as is common for many internal PSU executives until board-level appointments.

About the Post: Director (Mining & Construction Business)

The Director (Mining & Construction Business) is a functional Board-level position reporting to the Chairman & Managing Director. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overall leadership of the Mining & Construction Business Group

  • Design, development, manufacturing and performance of earthmoving, mining and construction equipment

  • Marketing, indigenisation, new product development and business growth

  • Achieving MoU targets with the Government and driving operational excellence

Mining & Construction is one of BEML’s core verticals and has historically contributed a significant share of the company’s revenue (often around 40%+ in recent years).
