Gail (India): GAIL Independent Directors: Government Nominates Banwari Lal and Rupa Saikia
GAIL said the government has nominated Banwari Lal and Rupa Saikia as independent directors for three years, subject to appointment formalities.

GAIL independent directors Banwari Lal and Rupa Saikia have been nominated by the Government of India to join the board of GAIL (India) Limited, the state-owned gas company said in a BSE filing on August 13, 2026.
The disclosure followed a Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas letter dated August 12, 2026. According to the ministry communication enclosed with the filing, the competent authority approved the appointment of the two individuals as non-official directors on GAIL’s board.
Three-year board tenure
The government communication specified a tenure of three years from the date of the ministry’s letter, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. GAIL described both nominees as non-official independent directors in its exchange disclosure.
- Dr Banwari Lal — nominated as a non-official independent director under category A(i).
- Rupa Saikia — nominated as a non-official independent director under category A(vi).
The ministry addressed its communication to the chairman and managing director of GAIL in New Delhi. Deputy Secretary Ravi Pande signed the government letter.
GAIL to complete formalities
GAIL said it is taking the necessary steps to complete the appointment formalities. The company will submit the requisite disclosures regarding the appointments in due course.
The filing was made under the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015. GAIL submitted the communication to BSE, where it trades under scrip code 532155, and to the National Stock Exchange of India, where its scrip code is GAIL-EQ. Company Secretary Deepak Asija signed the exchange disclosure.
