Ashish Chatterjee Appointed Government Nominee Director on Coal India Board
The Ministry of Coal has appointed Shri Ashish Chatterjee, AS&FA, as Government Nominee Director on the Board of Coal India Limited, replacing Ms. Nirupama Kotru with immediate effect.

The Ministry of Coal has appointed Shri Ashish Chatterjee, AS&FA, as Part-time Official Director (Government Nominee Director) on the Board of Coal India Limited. He replaces Ms. Nirupama Kotru, AS&FA, MOC, effective immediately and until further orders.
Shri Ashish Chatterjee is a senior civil servant from the 1999 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) batch, Tamil Nadu cadre. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He has over 25 years of experience in various administrative roles at both State and Central Government levels.
In Tamil Nadu, he has held key leadership roles. He served as District Collector for Viluppuram, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur districts, where he was vital in promoting governance and development initiatives at the grassroots level. Additionally, he worked in Urban Development and City Governance in the Corporation of Chennai.
At the Central level, Shri Chatterjee has taken on several important positions. As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, he was crucial in shaping policy and overseeing the sector. He also served as Government Nominee Director on the Boards of GAIL (India) Ltd., IOCL, and EIL, where he contributed to strategic decisions in the energy sector.
In April 2025, Shri Ashish Chatterjee became Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. There, he manages financial administration and advises on fiscal issues related to the steel sector.
