New Delhi, May 9:
In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Leh district administration has ordered a two-day closure of all educational institutions. Both government and private schools in the region will remain shut on May 9 and 10, as a safety measure amid the uncertain security situation.
The announcement came from Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhdeva, who urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity or emergencies by dialing 112.
Official advisory: "All government and private schools in the Leh district shall remain closed for the next two days. This precaution is necessary due to the current sensitive situation. Citizens are advised to remain cautious and contact emergency services if needed."
The precautionary shutdown has also been extended to other sensitive areas. Schools located in Baramulla, Kupwara, Gurez Sub-Division, and areas near the Srinagar and Awantipora airports will also remain closed on May 9 and 10, 2025.
This move is aimed at ensuring the safety of students and staff, as border tensions continue to rise following military developments.
Late Thursday night, India reportedly intercepted and neutralised multiple aerial threats, including missiles and drones, launched by Pakistan targeting military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other strategic locations. This incident has raised concerns over a broader conflict, prompting enhanced security and precautionary measures in border areas.
If the situation remains stable, schools across affected districts, including Leh, are expected to resume normal operations on May 11. Further updates will depend on the evolving security landscape and official advisories from local authorities.
