The Bengaluru police have arrested Nikhil Sosale, the head of marketing and revenue for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Diageo India, in connection with the stampede that occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, June 4.
Sosale was taken into custody at the Bengaluru airport while reportedly en route to Mumbai. His arrest is linked to the crowd management failure during RCB's victory celebrations, which led to a stampede.
In a separate action, three officials from DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt. Ltd., the firm responsible for organising the event, were also detained by the police for questioning.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted at Cubbon Park Police Station, where an FIR was registered naming RCB, DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association as accused parties in the case.
Authorities are currently interrogating the detained individuals to determine responsibility for the incident, which has raised serious concerns about event safety and crowd control at major sporting venues.
