As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, uncertainty looms over the remainder of the IPL 2025 season, particularly after Thursday's match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned mid-play in Dharamsala due to security concerns.

Speaking to the media, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal stated that the tournament organizers are awaiting government directives before making any major decisions regarding upcoming fixtures. “The situation is being closely monitored. At present, we have not received any official instructions, but any decision will prioritize the safety and well-being of everyone involved,” Dhumal said.

Despite the disruption, Friday's clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow is scheduled to go ahead as planned.

Evacuation After Air Raid Alerts

The Dharamsala encounter was halted when PBKS were at 122/1 in 10.1 overs. Initially believed to be a technical issue with the floodlights, the situation escalated when a blackout hit the stadium, prompting a full evacuation of both players and spectators. The match was later officially abandoned amid reports of air raid alerts in Jammu and Pathankot, raising alarms about possible cross-border threats.

As a safety measure, the players and staff of both teams will be moved to Delhi via a special train from Pathankot. The journey to Pathankot — approximately 85 km from Dharamsala — will be made by road due to the closure of nearby airports in Dharamsala, Kangra, and Chandigarh, all part of the current security lockdown.

IPL at a Crossroads

The sudden disruption has put the tournament’s continuity into question, with fans and franchises alike awaiting clarity. The Dharamsala stadium, which was nearly 80% full with a crowd of about 18,000 spectators, was cleared swiftly under emergency protocols.

While the IPL continues — for now — all eyes are on how the situation unfolds in the coming days, especially with increasing pressure on authorities to ensure player safety amid the rising geopolitical tensions.
