Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders: Mazagon Dock Focuses on Dighi and Dugarajapatnam, Explains Thoothukudi
Mazagon Dock explains why it did not pursue the Thoothukudi shipyard and identifies Dighi and Dugarajapatnam as its current cluster development priorities.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd said in a BSE filing dated October 2, 2026, that it is focusing on the proposed shipbuilding clusters at Dighi in Maharashtra and Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The company also explained why it had not pursued further its earlier exploration of a greenfield shipyard at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu.
The clarification responded to a news item published by Hindubusinessline.com about Mazagon Dock deciding not to proceed with the Thoothukudi shipyard project. BSE listed the disclosure under rumour verification, Regulation 30(11).
The government undertaking's response sets out both its current development focus and the reason it did not take the previously explored Tamil Nadu proposal forward. It distinguishes its selection for two proposed clusters from the separate anchor-shipyard selection process for Thoothukudi.
Two proposed clusters take priority
Mazagon Dock said it has been selected as the Anchor Shipyard for the proposed Greenfield Shipbuilding Industrial Clusters at two locations:
- Dighi, Maharashtra
- Dugarajapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
These proposed clusters fall under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV) 2047. The company said it is presently focusing on their development.
The filing describes the two locations as proposed clusters. It does not provide investment amounts, shipbuilding capacities, construction schedules or commissioning dates. Its disclosure concerns Mazagon Dock's selection as anchor shipyard and its present focus on developing these locations, without detailing project execution milestones.
Why Thoothukudi was not pursued
Mazagon Dock had earlier explored developing a greenfield shipyard at Thoothukudi. It said it did not pursue that proposal further after the joint venture formed by a Tamil Nadu State Government entity and V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority decided to select another shipyard as the anchor for the proposed Thoothukudi cluster.
The clarification does not identify the other shipyard selected by the joint venture or name the state government entity involved.
Addressed to BSE and the National Stock Exchange, the filing carries BSE scrip code 543237 and NSE symbol MAZDOCK. Company Secretary and Compliance Officer Lalatendu Acharya signed the clarification.
