Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given his approval to the execution model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), India's indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet. The project will be carried out by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in collaboration with Indian industry partners.

According to officials, the first prototype of the AMCA is expected to be ready by 2028-29, with production planned to begin in 2032-33. The aircraft is expected to be inducted into the Indian Air Force by 2034.

Accelerating the development of the AMCA has become increasingly important in light of regional security challenges. China has already deployed two fifth-generation fighter jets and plans to supply 40 J-35 fighters to Pakistan. These developments, particularly in the wake of the military standoff during Operation Sindoor, have heightened the urgency for India to bolster its indigenous defense capabilities.

The AMCA program is a significant step in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defense technology and aims to provide the Indian Air Force with a state-of-the-art stealth multirole combat aircraft for future warfare needs.
