Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has announced a strategic global partnership with US-based Lummus Technology to commercialize its proprietary Naphtha to Olefins (HP-NTO) process technology. The agreement was formally signed at HPCL’s Corporate Office in Mumbai in the presence of senior executives from both organizations.

The HP-NTO technology, developed indigenously by HPCL and backed by a patent, enables the conversion of naphtha into high-value olefins such as ethylene and propylene. These chemicals are key building blocks for the petrochemical industry. The partnership leverages HPCL’s catalytic research and development capabilities along with Lummus Technology’s global licensing and commercialization expertise.

The HP-NTO process stands out as an energy-efficient alternative to the conventional naphtha cracker route. Unlike traditional methods that require extremely high temperatures, the HP-NTO technology operates at lower temperatures, offering both cost efficiency and environmental benefits.

This alliance is expected to accelerate the global adoption of HPCL’s innovation, supporting India’s position as a hub for advanced petrochemical technologies while offering international markets a more sustainable route to olefin production.

Senior officials from HPCL highlighted that this move aligns with the company’s vision to commercialize homegrown technologies on a global scale. Lummus Technology, a recognized leader in process technologies, expressed enthusiasm about taking HP-NTO to international clients seeking efficient olefin solutions.

With this collaboration, HPCL continues its efforts to enhance value through innovation, demonstrating the potential of Indian R&D in solving global industrial challenges.
