Jupiter Wagons has won a standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Uttarakhand through its energy business, JEM Energy, and received the formal award for its Jeerat project in West Bengal, according to its BSE filing dated October 5, 2026.

The Uttarakhand project, awarded by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), has a capacity of 41 MW/102.5 MWh. JEM Energy secured it in partnership with Madhav Infra Projects Limited. The partnership emerged as the lowest, or L1, bidder for Cluster C of UPCL’s tender under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding mechanism.

The release said the projects envisage supply and commissioning of approximately ₹100 crore of BESS systems. The Uttarakhand win extends JEM Energy’s presence into a new state as Jupiter Wagons expands its energy storage business beyond its traditional railway and mobility operations.

Formal award for Jeerat storage project

Jupiter Wagons also received a Letter of Award from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for the 50 MW/200 MWh standalone BESS project at the Jeerat 132 kV substation in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

The company had secured the Jeerat project in August 2026. The latest disclosure confirms receipt of the formal award for that previously secured project.

The company linked these developments to Green Energy Corridor Phase-III. According to the release, the Union Cabinet-approved scheme provides for 50 GWh of battery energy storage alongside stronger intra-state transmission networks. JEM Energy said it is building its utility-scale portfolio in line with this framework.

Order book and profitability targets

Managing Director Vivek Lohia reiterated the company’s energy storage ambitions and outlined these targets:

  • A BESS order book of approximately ₹1,000 crore by FY27.
  • Jupiter Electric Mobility turning EBITDA positive in Q3 FY27.
  • Jupiter Electric Mobility turning profitable by FY28.

These are management targets and expectations, rather than reported financial outcomes. Lohia said the company would continue bidding for utility-scale and Commercial & Industrial opportunities across India. Jupiter Electric Mobility, a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons, operates in electric vehicles and energy storage solutions.
