Jamna Auto Industries: Jamna Auto Tax Litigation: Court Gives Eight Weeks to Reply in Rs 1.86 Crore
Jamna Auto gets eight weeks to respond to a tax notice involving Rs 1.86 crore in input tax credit; the tax officer must hear the company before deciding.

Jamna Auto tax litigation over input tax credit of Rs 1.86 crore has moved to the reply stage following High Court directions, the company said in a BSE filing dated October 5, 2026. The Punjab and Haryana High Court disposed of its writ petition along with connected matters, giving the company eight weeks to submit a reply or supplementary reply to the tax authorities.
The court delivered its judgment on October 1, 2026, in CWP No. 21801 of 2023 and connected matters. According to the filing, proceedings concerning Jamna Auto remain at the show cause notice stage. Disposal of the writ petition therefore does not amount to a final determination of the company's eligibility for the disputed credit.
Dispute concerns input tax credit eligibility
The matter stems from a September 5, 2023 notice issued by the Proper Office (State Tax)-cum-Excise & Taxation Office of the HGST Department in Jagadhri, Haryana. It primarily concerns the alleged ineligibility of Rs 1.86 crore in input tax credit claimed and utilised by Jamna Auto Industries Ltd.
The company challenged that notice through Civil Writ Petition 21801-2023 before the Punjab and Haryana High Court at Chandigarh. Its latest disclosure follows earlier exchange filings dated September 11, October 4, October 10 and October 11, 2023.
The amount disclosed relates to the credit under dispute. The filing does not report a settlement or a final tax order resolving the company's case.
Reply and hearing to precede tax decision
The filing sets out the following next steps under the court's directions:
- Jamna Auto may submit a reply or supplementary reply, together with supporting materials, within eight weeks.
- The Proper Officer must grant an opportunity of hearing before deciding the matter.
- The decision must take the judgment's guidelines into account and be issued through a reasoned and speaking order.
Jamna Auto said it would file its reply within the stipulated period. The disclosure was signed by Praveen Lakhera, Company Secretary & Head-Legal, and addressed to BSE and the National Stock Exchange. The company is listed under BSE code 520051 and NSE symbol JAMNAAUTO.
