On Monday, September 1, 2025, the Tamil Nadu government signed several memoranda of understanding in Germany, including one with Knorr-Bremse, during Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s visit to the country.
This investment will be Knorr-Bremse’s first major manufacturing project in Tamil Nadu and is expected to create 3,500 jobs.
Another MoU was signed with Nordex Group, one of the top wind turbine manufacturers. The company will invest Rs 1,000 crore in a project that could create 2,500 jobs. The third MoU was with ebm-papst, a company focused on energy-efficient electric motors and air movement solutions. They will expand their global capability center and manufacturing base in the State. With a planned investment of Rs 201 crore over five years, this expansion is expected to create 250 jobs in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), automotive, and industrial sectors.
Mr. Stalin also met with senior leaders of the BMW Group, who showed interest in expanding their operations in Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister emphasized Tamil Nadu’s strength in the automotive and electric vehicle sectors and invited BMW to engage further with India through Tamil Nadu.
Regarding the MoUs, Mr. Stalin said they showed “the world’s growing confidence in our State.” In a post on X, he stated, “Tamil Nadu moves ahead as a center of excellence, carrying strength, vision, and the promise of shaping global industry.”
BJP State president Nainar Nagendran commented that the companies involved in the MoUs had been operating in Tamil Nadu for many years. In a post on X, he expressed skepticism about the MoUs. Mr. Nagendran noted that the total investment of Rs 3,200 crore seemed small considering that Tamil Nadu is one of India’s largest economies. He claimed that many MoUs signed during Mr. Stalin’s foreign trips ended up being just formalities.
